Viera Wetlands is an outstanding nature preserve with fantastic birding. Built around a series of marsh impoundments used to filter water from a county treatment facility, the marshes are accessed by road when dry or by walking the over three miles of dike roadways, When I was last there, there had been a heavy thunderstorm the night before, so access was only by walking. I thought that gave better birding and closer observation of some of the smaller more hidden species. The wetlands are easily accessed off I-95 near Melbourne with a hotel and various restaurants at the interstate exit for those staying overnight and getting to the marsh for first light
