Ding Darling is a well-known wildlife refuge on Sanibel Island in Florida. It was one of the first wildlife refuges. Wildlife Drive is a four mile tour through the mangroves and ponds. While it is a well-known birding haven, the last few years have been a disappointment to many as to number of birds. On our trip there in April of 2015, there were not many birds and "no-see-ums" were fierce ,so dress appropriately. It is important to tour at low tide so check the tide charts. Also remember that Wildlife Drive is closed on Fridays. The refuge is a fee park ($5) or free with a Senior National Parks Pass
